Tina & Fina

Tina & Fina are two little roboski hamsters that Jolyn and I adopted on July 2009. They are two little girls that seemed very fragile and frightened when they first arrived in the house. Jolyn’s colleague reared hamsters and Tina and Fina are two of the latest offsprings that are given away.

Jolyn brought them over in a little disposible bowl. They looked so small then. Jolyn assured me that the roboski will “not be bigger than my thumb” and I thought “well, that would be easy to keep,” so we went and purchased a modest home for them at a nearby pet store.

This is the initial and current setup for the roboskis. They had been running around inside all curious and stuff, and I pretty much left them there to enjoy themselves, doing the weekly cleaning of cage and getting the foods for them to munch on.

They grow pretty fast! now they are no longer the “size of my thumb” in any standards, unless my thumb is so swollen they are the size of a pebble. Anyway, I figured that they need more space, being robo runners and stuff, and hence bought an extension for them to sleep in.

They seemed to like the place a lot.

My future plans for them is to get them a bigger home, probably with two or three storeys so that they can really run around the place instead of a small enclosed area with two wheels ( I actually have to get them each their own wheel, because they look miserable running in serial with the original wheel that came with the setup. For those intending to get their own roboskis, I highly recommend the slient types because they can go on and on and on – through the night! The resulting noise generated from a rickety wheel is not very good for the humans sharing the room with them =) My next project would be to connect dynamos onto the wheels to generate power to charge batteries and stuff – they really do go on and on!

Anyway, I would also try and tame them so that they can feel easy with human contact. They look so cute sitting on the hand on those youtube videos.

Update: Finna passed away peacefully on 25 February 2010. Tina continues to live as healthy as can be, though I fear for her health as well. She is still well, but I suspect being all alone in her home can lead her to be anti-social. Should I introduce more hammies into her life?
